Quota...reservation. crutches... what m talking about.....well as the hue n cry against 50% reservation is on...i was pondering over....and discovered the word crutches is synonymous to the former two....hmmmm not quite an analogy...let me explain... from where I see....I find those minority ppl working less hard to achieve there ambition- 'coz 'quota' is there....striving even less for jobs-'coz 'quota' is there…..and last but not the least feeling out of place everywhere...'coz 'quota' is there....
I have been witness to this quota community for 4 years....i did my engineering at a college established in 1947.. -- Govt. Engg. College Jabalpur, MP......A then symbol for a churning up techies for a developed nation..
BACKGROUND INFO-: MP is well known for reservation to ST/SC/OBC... in Govt. engineering colleges... if the ST/SC/OBC person scores 33% or above he can get into an engg. course...if not he needs to undergo a foundation course(FC) for the 1st year... and then qualifies for the engg course(next 4 yrs)...and as soon as they join college for FC course they are christened as 'FC's' by the general public.
...my college had a clear divide.....a sizeable community of ppl called FC ( no offence intended)...i really hated this term....and the rest were 'general'.....in my hostel outta 100 girls at least 35-40 were girls who belonged to ST/SC/OBC........they were just like us.....but still general girls weren’t so comfortable mixing with them neither were they....i really felt bad about dividing ppl like this....what did british do???n are Indian politicians there followers????
One of my hostel mate shared the stigma of being a 'quota' person...she said "it was better if i wouldn't have applied in quota...at least i wud have shown my competitive edge...i m sick of being criticized for being a privileged one.."
i also came to know a girl who was from a far tribal area of Bastar...she couldn’t speak hindi/English ....i doubted how did she write the entrance exam??? Hindi n English are the only two languages in MP board curriculum...
Well through these two cases i just wanna throw light on some aspects of quota system....as of now the disadvantages are more….
...don’t make these ppl cripple...don’t give them crutches to walk when they can do without them....don’t make them outcaste....give them support...n encouragement....make them feel they are contributing to the nation's development than being dependent.....make them proud. make them compete....
My personal experience is this quota system deepens the social divide then filling it up…believe me....i witnessed it for four years….on this note...cya
